Please note that if in the future, the LMTHS offers educational programs targeted specifically for children, under Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law, school volunteers who are responsible for the child's welfare or who have "direct volunteer contact" with children at a school (i.e., the care, supervision, guidance, or control of children and routine interaction with children) are required to provide documentation (at his/her own cost) of completed background checks which include: PA Criminal Record Check and PA Child Abuse History Clearance. A required FBI Background Check can be waived if the volunteer has been a resident of PA for the last 10 years and affirms in writing that he or she has not been convicted of one of 20 disqualifying crimes (including homicide, assault, stalking, kidnapping, sexual offenses, prostitution or child endangerment, and similar crimes).

Visitor Services -
- Bartholomew Center for the Preservation of Lower Macungie Township History Museum - Sundays 1-4pm (except holidays) and special events/ educational programs. Provide information to visitors (orientation required); promote and sell memberships and bookstore items.
- Bortz Log House - (Special Events). Provide basic information and tours; assist with preparation of displays/decorations and activities, as needed.
- Assist with off-site special events/ educational programs. Provide and/or assist with serving food (e.g./baked goods) and room preparation (e.g. set up tables, chairs, signage).
- Membership Recruitment - Help keep the LMTHS fiscally sound by promoting the LMTHS on- and off-site.
Office Support - As needed
- Fundraising - Assist staff with obtaining items for auction, raffle, sponsors for events and food donations; promote sales of bricks for memorial garden.
- Phone contact - Call members to thank them for their support, recapture calls to lapsed members
- Data Entry/Computer - Entering general, historical and scientific data, knowledge of WORD, Excel, or PastPerfect beneficial.
- Mailings - General membership services i.e., folding, collating, stuffing envelopes on designated dates
- General Office - Copying, filing, and miscellaneous tasks for administration, education, and research; assist with maintaining small library in museum.
Research - As needed
- Genealogical, historical and deed research
- Assist with documentation of historic structures
- Write/ assist with preparation of articles for the LMTHS newsletter
Buildings, garden and grounds maintenance - As needed
- Log House Kitchen Garden - Assist with planting, weeding and care of plants. Remove litter from surrounding area.
- General maintenance/ cleaning inside museum and log house and surrounding grounds.
Miscellaneous - Occasionally, as needed
- Photography - Our need for specifics is sporadic; but we always need candid shots of volunteers at work and visitors.
- Exhibit and graphic design - Assist with designing posters, brochures, exhibits, etc.
- Represent the LMTHS at a booth at public events
- Grant writing
